noise as design virtue

Ruis als ontwerpdeugd. Not noise tolerated or aestheticised — noise built in on purpose, because its absence costs something. The argument has been made for human–artifact systems generally: disruption of information flow can be an epistemic virtue, and distance and distraction, the classical enemies of cognition, may turn out to be virtues after all.
