The extreme of coupling: a system where discrete causal components cannot be distinguished, because organisation emerges in the interactions. Any component acts through the whole, overriding whatever dynamics it would have had alone — which is why pink noise appears in the signal rather than a clean modular trace. The ethical consequence follows directly: where components can't be delineated, responsibility can't be assigned. Fine for a walking stick; much less fine for a device running decision-making systems whose scoring is contestable but whose contribution to a given decision can no longer be isolated for appeal.
