Functional over-adaptation: a technical object so overdetermined toward one function that it loses autonomy outside its narrow field. Hypertelic objects are closed — not oriented toward being continued or extended. The counter-claim is that technical objects are free in their evolution and not driven toward a fatal hypertely. A direct argument against the seamless single-purpose device, and for building things that stay open — the same argument noise as design virtue makes from the side of the user rather than the object.
